Hotel con Corazón is set up as a social enterprise; a commercial operation that invests 100% of its profits in a social cause. Because social enterprises are not recognized legal entities just yet, we are organized a little differently.

Operations in Nicaragua

In Nicaragua we are registered as Fundación Hotel con Corazón in the Registro de asociaciones: número perpetuo 3709. The business is operationally split into two entities: hotel and foundation. Since the hotel is in competition with other hotels we pay commercial taxes, such as value added tax (VAT). The foundation is responsible for all educational activities. The tax regime on this activity is that of all foundations in Nicaragua.

Dutch Foundation

In the Netherlands we are also registered as a foundation: ‘Stichting’ Hotel con Corazón. The Dutch tax authorities recognize the foundation as a public welfare institution (ANBI).
