Education in Nicaragua.
Many children in Nicaragua drop out of school prematurely. This has many causes:
Tuition is free, but many parents cannot afford the additional costs. Uniform, shoes, school materials, books, let alone extras such as security personnel or contributions towards out-of-school activities, are beyond the financial reach of many families.
The level of education varies widely. With every new government, directors and teachers change and so does the system.
Not all parents are convinced that it is important to send a child to school. They may need them to work on the land or take care of the household. Not everybody recognizes the future value of education.
Children have limited opportunities to go to secondary school – or so they believe. Hence they think, “Why finish primary school to begin with?”
